Malaysian Economy Expands 5.6% in 1st Quarter of 2017

The Malaysian economy expanded by 5.6% in the first quarter of 2017. Growth was helped by stronger domestic demand, particularly the private sector spending. From the supply side, the improvement was driven by a change in the agriculture sector and higher growth in manufacturing and services sectors.

The economy is on track to register higher growth in 2017. Domestic demand is projected to continue to expand. Although inflation increased to 4.3% due to higher oil prices in the first quarter, it is expected to moderate from the second quarter onwards
