Hong Kong Chief Executive-Elect’s Carrie Lam First Day at Work

The Chief Executive-elect, Mrs Carrie Lam, paid a series of courtesy calls today (March 27) to mark her first day of work.
In the morning, Mrs Carrie Lam met the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, at the Chief Executive’s Office to discuss transition arrangements with the incumbent government. Mrs Lam thanked Mr Leung for his help in ensuring a seamless transition between the two terms of the Government.
She also praised the civil service for organising the election for the fifth-term Chief Executive smoothly. After the meeting, Mrs Lam and Mr Leung met the media together.
Mrs Lam called on the Acting Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, Mr Justice Robert Tang, and the President of the Legislative Council, Mr Andrew Leung.

At the courtesy call on Mr Justice Tang, Mrs Lam stressed that judicial independence and the rule of law were the core values of Hong Kong. She also assured Mr Justice Tang that she would safeguard these values steadfastly.
During her subsequent meeting with Mr Andrew Leung, Mrs Lam emphasised the importance of maintaining good relationship between the legislature and the executive. The new-term Government and she would work closely with the legislature and its members, she added.
