Philippines International Reserves at $80.1 Billion in March 2018

Manila | 6th April 2018

Preliminary data showed that the country’s gross international reserves (GIR) level stood at $80.1 billion as of end-March.  This was slightly lower than the $80.4 billion level recorded in February 2018 due mainly to outflows arising from the foreign exchange operations of the BSP and payments made by the National Government (NG) for its maturing foreign exchange obligations.

The end-March 2018 level of GIR serves as an ample external liquidity buffer and is equivalent to 7.8 months’ worth of imports of goods and payments of services and primary income. It is also equivalent to 5.6 times the country’s short-term external debt based on original maturity and 4.1 times based on residual maturity.
